The YL-83 rain sensor is used to detect rain, sleet, or generally the presence of water on the detection surface. It consists of a sensing board with exposed conductive tracks and an evaluation module with an LM393 comparator. Once water droplets bridge the tracks on the sensing board, its resistance changes, and the module provides both an analogue output (proportional to the amount of water) and a digital output with adjustable sensitivity via a trimmer. The sensor is ideal for weather stations, automatic closing of windows or roof lights, and other DIY projects with Arduino or ESP32.
