Battery systems using LTO cells (Lithium-Titanate Oxide) represent a specific, but very interesting area of battery technology. Compared to standard Li-ion cells, they have a lower nominal voltage (approximately 2.3 V per cell), but excel in extreme lifespan, high safety and rapid charging. However, for their correct and effective management, a customised battery management system is required – known as BMS (Battery Management System).

The project is based on a decentralised approach, where each cell has its own board with a microcontroller and measuring circuits that communicate with the main control unit. Commonly available components and open communication protocols were used, making the whole system easily replicable and expandable. The article also serves as inspiration for other developers and tinkerers looking for practical solutions for their own battery storage.

The µArt.cz 1S3P LTO battery with BMS is a compact battery module composed of three LTO cells connected in parallel (1S3P), supplemented by its own BMS development unit designed for precise monitoring of cell status and safe use. It is ideal for testing, tinkering and as a basic cell for larger battery packs.
