The VL53L1X laser distance sensor from STMicroelectronics is a compact Time-of-Flight (ToF) sensor with an I2C interface. It uses an invisible 940nm laser and direct light flight time measurement, allowing it to measure distance accurately regardless of the target's colour or reflectivity. Unlike older IR sensors, it is not sensitive to ambient light. The sensor offers a programmable field of view (ROI), adjustable range and fast measurement – making it suitable for presence detection, liquid level measurement, object detection on conveyors or as part of robotics.
